Elementary Pilot Course
Standard - Beginner, no experience necessary
Syllabus - British syllabus
Duration - 6 day course to meet and exceed requirements of the syllabus
Group Size - Max 6 students

Practical - Glider-handling skills:
• alpine and cross brake reverse launch techniques
• progression to short solo flights
• achieve and improve glider control in turns of 90-180º
• figure of 8 flying patterns from heights of 100ft
• good body posture and efficient weight shift control of your glider in turns
• progression to larger higher hill 200-300ft
Course aims - By the end of the course, students should be able to do the following unassisted:
• confident site assessments
• good controlled launches
• co-ordinated turns
• safe and sensible landings
Theory - Lectures will be given in:
• Air Law
• Flight Theory
• Meteorology
There will be a simple multiple choice exam.

Whats the next goal? – to complete Club Pilot course either in the UK or on our CP residential course (Lanzarote) and gain your BHPA Novice Club Pilot Certificate.


Club Pilot Course
Award - BHPA Novice Club Pilot Certificate(min requirement to fly alone, post school in the
UK)
Standard - Beginner who has completed Elementary Pilot Course or equivalent
Syllabus - British syllabus plus extra added time learning to Thermal
Group Size - Min 4 max 6 pilots
Duration - 6 days

Practical - Consolidate glider-handling skills, starting with good, comfortable Alpine and Reverse Launch techniques
Refine skills and manoeuvres from in-flight coaching via a fitted radio
Basic Thermalling & Soaring techniques
Course aims - By the end of the course, students should be confident in the following:
• Soaring
• good Pitch Control
• utilising available lift including Thermalling
• Top Landing
• Big Ears Descent technique
• Accelerator systems
• Circuit Landings
• 360º Turns
Theory - Lectures will be given in:
• Air Law
• Flight Theory
• Meteorology
There will be a simple multiple choice exam.
